Senate District 10

Senator Gardenhire:(R) Vice-Chair, Joint Fiscal Review Committee, 2nd Vice-Chair, Senate State and Local Government Committee, Member: Senate Judiciary Committee, Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Joint Pensions and Insurance Committee. Senator Gardenhire pleasantly surprised us this year by sponsoring three very strong bills that we chose to support, and 1 co-sponsored. Two of them passed in the house but were last-minute derailed in the senate: SB364 prohibits state and local governmental entities from taking discriminatory action against a business based on that business's internal policies, and SB482 requiring LEA's to equalize payroll deductions for dues of professional employees' organizations. The third, SB1035 would have reform the TSBA and held it accountable but it never made it in the house. We encourage all of those bills to be brought back next year. They need to be passed. Senator Gardenhire could improve his vote score by applying the same principles to our other bills as he did to the four he sponsored or co-sponsored. We encourage him to work with us next year to achieve better results. 2018: Sponsored one (1) bill supported by TLRC providing recourse for victims of asset forfeiture. Sponsored one (1) bill opposed by TLRC providing in-state tuition for non-U.S. citizens. Co-sponsored two (2) bills supported by TLRC. Voted for the gas tax.
