Rep. Tandy Darby: (R) new in 2021, serves asa Member, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee, Calendar and Rules Committee, Education Administration Committee, and the Higher Education Subcommittee.

Representative Darby is new this year and, due to COVID restrictions, we did not get to the capitol to meet and develop relationships with the new members. We like what we see but need more time and exposure to develop reliable evaluations based on multiple performance criteria. Rep. Darby’s 96% vote score is a good indicator of his constitutional conservative credentials.

He lost a few points by supporting the following bills:

HB0141, giving special tax-exemptions to the film and video industry

HR0010, a Resolution to honor Pastor William J. Barber II, a left-wing pro-CRT advocate.

And not supporting:

HB0576, whereby Education institutions and the TNDOE would have to promulgate rules in compliance with statutes and the constitutions, rather than policies.

HB0801, requiring employers of 6 or more to use E-Verify.

Those being constitution-based bills affected Darby’s Leadership grade. We did not see or hear a lot from Representative Darby, which is not unusual for freshman members. The 2022 session will provide opportunities to meet and learn more about the District 76 (NW TN) Republican member.
