TLRC statement

This legislation aims to prevent the federal government from engaging in geoengineering and deliberately releasing chemicals into the Tennessee atmosphere. Similar bills have been introduced in six other states nationwide. The urgency behind such legislation arises from a White House document titled “Congressionally Mandated Research Plan and Initial Research Governance Framework Related to Solar Radiation Modification,” which emphasizes the need for immediate and effective global greenhouse gas emissions reduction to address climate change.

The Biden-Harris Administration acknowledges climate change as a significant global challenge and expresses interest in researching climate intervention techniques, including solar radiation modification (SRM). While recognizing potential benefits, the administration also acknowledges concerns and advocates for research to understand both the benefits and risks of SRM.

Congressman Fleischmann recently highlighted the importance of allocating at least $39,000,000 for research on cloud, aerosol, precipitation, and radiation processes related to geoengineering.

The public is concerned about the government experimenting with weather modification or geoengineering with the focus of addressing the climate change narrative. This bill makes sure that we end that dangerous experimentation over Tennessee skies.
