TLRC statement
Present law provides that it is a Class B misdemeanor to possess a weapon in a building or on property that is properly posted in accordance with present law. Under present law, this Class B misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of $500. This bill deletes this provision entirely.
Passage of this bill provides that:
- You are not breaking the law and there is no criminal penalty if you have an enhanced carry permit, and you use your firearm in self-defense on a property that may have postage signage restricting concealed carry.
- Private property rights still apply. If you are seen carrying and you are asked to leave the property, you must leave.
