TLRC statement
If passed, this law amends current law by adding a new subsection that restricts internet use in voting machines and equipment. This means voting machines cannot send, receive, or cast ballots over the internet. This restriction would also apply to all voting equipment.
The only exception is for members of the military and overseas citizens who may be allowed to vote electronically, as permitted under Tennessee election laws.
The purpose of this legislation is to enhance election security by preventing hacking or cyber threats that could compromise electronic voting systems and to maintain trust in the electoral process by ensuring ballots are cast and counted securely.
