TLRC Statement on Bill

We have seen all across the country and even in the state of Tennessee that there is an agenda against our families and our children.

House Bill 1 addresses the practice of child mutilation for purposes of gender affirmation. We have discovered that right here in Tennessee, children have been subject to surgeries that remove or alter healthy body parts in order to permanently alter that person’s appearance to look like the opposite sex.

This bill addresses the problem by enacting a state law that prohibits any surgery on a minor for these purposes and also disallows the use of puberty-blocking hormones for minors.

The bill creates a private right of action for the individual, the ability for the state’s Attorney General to take action against a healthcare provider violating this law, and the ability to pose sanctions on the licensing of practitioners violating the law.
