TLRC Statement on Bill

Clarifies in law that parental consent is required to give a minor (under the age of 18) a vaccine of any kind.

Unfortunately, officials with the TN Department of Health promoted misinformation stating that healthcare providers could vaccinate children as young as 14 years old without the consent of their parents. This had mostly to do with encouraging uptake of the COVID shot and stemmed from a 1980s court decision having to do with a 17-year-old needing back surgery. Yes, one of these things is not like the other.

This Act will clarify that misconception and protect children. A violation of this Act will give grounds for the revocation of any licensing of the offending healthcare professional.
